Why we never store your voice
Recitation is personal. Here is exactly what happens to your voice when you use the recitation check.
Reciting the Quran or the words of your prayer is personal. Many people feel shy about being heard at all. So we decided early: your voice is not ours to keep.
What happens when you press the microphone
- In Chrome, Edge and Safari, the browser's own speech service may turn your recitation into text.
- In other browsers, the audio is sent to our server, checked by a speech model in memory, and thrown away when the check ends.
- We keep only the result: your score, which words were clear, and which letters to practise.
No exceptions
There is no teacher upload and no voice archive. Nobody's recitation is stored — not for testing, not for anyone.
What this costs us
Without recordings, it is harder to measure how accurate the check is. That is why our pronunciation page says plainly that we don't have real-world accuracy numbers yet, and why we are asking volunteer reciters to record *labelled* examples, with consent, specifically for testing.
We think that trade is worth it.
