What is Ulamat?
A free app that teaches what every Muslim must know — belief, purity, prayer, fasting and more — in short lessons, with a recitation check that shows which words and letters to practise.
Is it free?
Yes. Fard 'ayn knowledge is free forever. If anything optional ever costs money, it will be clearly marked.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It works in your browser. You can add it to your home screen to use it like an app, and it works offline for pages you have opened.
Which languages does it support?
English, Bengali, Arabic, Urdu and Indonesian. Translations are marked as drafts until a native speaker has reviewed them.
Do I need an account?
Yes. A free account is created during onboarding: your progress, scores and reminders live there, so they follow you to any device and survive a lost phone.
Which madhab does it follow?
You choose: Hanafi, Shafi'i, Maliki or Hanbali. If you are not sure, the app shows the common ground and notes where the schools differ.
How much time do I need each day?
Five minutes is enough to make progress. You set your own daily goal, and a gentle minimum mode is there on hard days.
I am new to Islam. Where do I start?
Choose “New to Islam” when you start. The path begins with the shahada and the kalimas, then wudu and the prayer, one small step at a time.
How accurate is the recitation check?
We don't have real-world accuracy numbers yet, and we won't make them up. The Pronunciation technology page explains what we have measured so far and what we haven't.
Why does it sometimes say “not sure”?
When the audio is unclear — background noise, a quiet voice, a bad connection — it asks you to try again instead of guessing. A wrong “correct” would be worse than no answer.
Can it replace a teacher?
No. It is for practice between lessons. A teacher hears details no model hears today, so keep reciting to a teacher when you can.
Which browsers work best?
Recent Chrome, Edge and Safari give the fastest recitation check. Other browsers work too; the check then runs on our server.
Is my voice recorded or stored?
We never store your recitation. In Chrome, Edge and Safari the browser's own speech service may process it; otherwise it is checked on our server in memory and discarded.
What data do you keep?
Your settings, progress, scores and streak, stored with our database provider so they sync across your devices. Never your recitation audio.
How do I delete my data?
Profile → Settings → Delete account removes your account and all data. The Delete account page explains every step.
Where does the content come from?
The Quran text and translations come from established sources such as Quran Foundation and QuranEnc. Duas and rulings cite the Quran and the major hadith collections with reference numbers.
I found a mistake. What should I do?
Tap “Report a mistake” on the item in the app, or use the contact form. Please include the correct source if you can.
What does “Awaiting scholar review” mean?
The item has a source but has not yet been checked by a named scholar. It becomes reviewed only after that check, and any later change needs a new review.
Does AI write the answers or lessons?
No. AI is used only to check the pronunciation of Arabic sounds. Lessons are written by people and answers are written by named scholars.
